The First Audioguide to Discover Bern
A frictionless mobile audioguide for Bern Welcome — designed as a personal, self-paced city companion, enabling visitors to explore Bern without the need to book a tour.
Most audioguides try too hard. Too many features, too much interface, too much explaining.
For Bern Welcome, the goal was the opposite: create something that gets out of the way. No app. No onboarding. No need to figure things out first. You open it, press play, and start walking.
A design that doesn’t try to compete with the city — it steps back.
Audio leads. The interface stays minimal. Orientation is there when you need it, and gone when you don’t. Because when you’re moving through a real place, attention is limited. You don’t want to manage a product. You want to look around, listen, and feel where you are.
So instead of building a feature-rich guide, I focused on rhythm:
when to guide, when to stay silent, when to let the city speak for itself.
The result is not a tool you use. It’s something that quietly runs alongside you — and makes the experience richer without ever demanding attention.
