Brining the art of Hannes Schmid into the virtual space

In 2012, Goldbach Interactive partnered with BUERGY to create a second-screen experience for the retrospective of Hannes Schmid in the Museum of Fine Arts in Berne, Switzerland.

The Swiss artist Hannes Schmid has been establishing an amazing body of work since the early 1970s. For many years, he worked as an advertising and fashion photographer. He created the Marlboro Man, went on adventures with the Camel Trophy, documented the life of all the famous rockstars in the 1970s and dedicates himself to many different social projects such as the Smiling Gecko Foundation in Cambodia.

Creating a virtual museum from scratch

The virtual museum for iPad's was conceptually developed together with an architect. Our goal was to create a generous and light space surrounded by a simple structure. Like in a real museum, we needed different areas within the exhibition to show the art and distinguish the area. We decided to create a linear building with different levels inside the building - all connected by stairs. This architectural situation enables visitors to experience both the art exhibition and the virtual building.

The iOS and Android Mobile App

To top it off, we created an app for mobile users which provided additional background information during their visit at the museum. Users where able to take pictures of each artwork using Augmented Reality.
